Progress

Great day at the Shack today with Bill and Hector and a large flotilla of fishing boats that looked like the Dunkirke evacuation. Bill's work prior to today was very impressive. And we made even more progress to secure the Shack for winter. Another day or two of work with new fencing for dune reconstruction would be recommended.

  1. Is the Shack still standing? I used to go as a kid as a guest of the family.

  2. This is an absolute treasure. It brings back to life magical weekends with my Uncle Joe (George Batcheler) and Aunt Penny (Penelope Hartshorne Batcheler). How well I remember the ice chest, and my dad hauling a giant block of ice through the dunes, marveling at how the driveway had shrunk over the winter, running from the green flies to the peace of the screened porch. But remembered most, even after decades, is the incredible calm and joy that would overtake each person who visited the Shack. The renewal of spirit brought by the Shack, dunes, beach and surf could be counted on, longed for, and long remembered. Thank you so much for posting this history of the shack.
